Worship Assistants
In the Episcopal Church, we teach that everyone is called to be a minister. Some are called to be ordained (as a deacon or priest), but many of us are simply called to participate in serving each other. In this spirit, volunteers are welcome for worship assistance. Training and orientation for the jobs are offered before service.
Some positions available on worship days include:
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild helps to “set the table” and “clear the table” for service. They take care of the liturgical objects that help us as symbols of our faith. Their quiet, diligent service is one of deep devotion.
Ushers/Greeters
Our greeters are the smile on the face of our church. They come early to meet us and our guests at the door, answer questions, and help us start service on the right note.
Acolytes
Acolytes assist the clergy during service. They help to handle our liturgical objects with reverence and are models of respect.
Readers/Lectors
Reading in service can be one of the more favorite church duties. We usually have one layperson read the Old Testament reading and Psalm, and another read the New Testament Reading and the Prayers of the People. This task involves skill and practice. Reading is an expression of love for both the texts and the congregation, and can be one of the more favorite church duties.
Offering Counters
A group of parishioners, overseen by the Treasurer, volunteers to account and prepare for deposit the weekly offerings collected at church services. A special software is used to track and report all accounting functions associated with the church’s finances.
Childcare Helpers
For safety reasons, we always have to have at least two adults (25+) in the room wherever there are children. Childcare helpers get to experience the fun of playing with our kids during service. See the “Children’s Programs” page for more.
AV Helpers
AV helpers are on hand during service to adjust sound levels as needed. When someone needs a mic adjustment, the AV helpers are there.
