Choir
As the Director of Music at St. Timothy’s, my goal on Sunday morning is to form a group of like-minded people who love to sing and who see their ministry as that of helping to support the congregation (who is the first “choir” of any gathered worshiping group) to more fully participate in their worship experience. To this end, the singers are meeting 45 minutes before the 9:30 service to practice all the service music for that particular liturgy. Just as the readings change weekly so will the music which is there to enhance and to support the readings for the day.
The choir will also practice an anthem to be presented at the Offertory time. As the word suggests, this is a time for the rehearsed choir to give a musical offering on behalf of the congregation. Consequently, God both inhabits the musical offering and is enthroned upon it. The same goes of those hearing the music-listeners are co-offerers! Singers offer the music; the listeners offer their hearing. All worshipers are at work worshiping.
Also this year, I am asking that the choir remain in the sanctuary after the service ends for 10-15 minutes in order to read through the music/ anthem for the following Sunday morning. This way, we all do not need to give up a mid-week evening to rehearse. It can all be accomplished on a Sunday morning.
If you feel called to this ministry and can “hold a tune” – come join in 45 minutes before the service beginning in September. The rest is up to me and the Holy Spirit.
